The nationwide “abpflastern” competition came to an end in October 2025. The cities that have removed the most paving stones have now been confirmed. Darmstadt is in second place in League G (major cities) with a total of 9,500 paving stones removed. The initiatives by Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences as part of the “Abpflastern Hochschule Darmstadt” project, as well as those by TU Darmstadt on the Mensavorplatz, made a significant contribution to climate-adapted urban design and together secured second place for Darmstadt.
