Funding the transition

The climate crisis, social inequality and tight public finances are usually discussed as separate issues. However, the research project ‘Wealth-based taxes in the socio-ecological transformation’ at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da), funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, shows that: Wealth-related taxes could finance the socio-ecological transition, provide political impetus for policy-making and reduce distributional conflicts. Another finding is that many of these instruments enjoy broad support, yet have so far been scarcely utilised in policy-making. Project leader Professor Ulrich Klüh and Leah Sinsel from the Department of Economics at h_da, together with Dr Julia Teebken from the Leibniz Institute for Spatial Social Research (IRS), will present the findings of their research.
